Welcome to the home of Enhance Studios.
Our Studio is the space that holds “Enhance” and everything we are. It shapes our rhythm, our way of working and our connection to those we capture. Everything here exists so that nothing about your family’s photograph is left to chance.
You'll find us at Unit 5 / 339 Williamstown Rd, Port Melbourne.
The Art of Luminance
Karina has been mastering “Light” for the past 22 years. In the studio it does what it is asked.
It falls across a newborn’s cheek at the angle she chooses, finds the silver in a grandmother’s hair and holds a family of 30 evenly from one end of the frame to the other.
It is the same light at nine in the morning as at four in the afternoon, in July as in January and it never depends on a window, a cloud or the hour.
That is what the technical training was for. The eye decides what the photograph should be. The light is made to agree.
Within these walls
Settling, waiting, beginning again. With every family, the same unhurried gestures. A newborn’s wrap adjusted by a finger’s width. A light moved until it falls the way it should. A grandmother’s gaze turned towards her daughter. A word to a nervous teenager, quiet enough that nobody else hears it. Dad asked to tickle and the laughter that follows.
Everything is deliberate and most of it is not about the camera at all.
Karina’s true gift is with the “people”. She puts a family at ease before they know it has happened, draws them towards each other, and waits for the look that passes between them. That is the photograph.
The craft is in making it happen and then in holding it still.
It is here that more than 4,000 Melbourne families have had theirs made. The portraits on walls across the city, the albums opened every Christmas, the photographs a family will one day go looking for and find, all began in this studio.
The Design Room
Nobody sees their own photographs being crafted. You were holding the baby, taming the toddler or gazing at your partner as they lift your child into the air. You saw a room, a camera and a photographer talking quietly to your children. The photograph happened in front of you and you were too close to it to see. Everyone is.
The Design Room is where you see what Karina saw.
The lights go down, the screen comes up and there is your family at a size you have never see. Not on a phone in your hand. On a wall, in front of you, in the dark. The first photograph holds for a long time. Nobody speaks.
What comes next is different for every family, but the same in many ways. A mother sees her children the way she has always seen them, and understands that she has never once been able to show anyone.
A father sees his family from the outside, with himself in it and learns what his children see when they look at him. Somebody laughs at the one where the toddler refused. A hand finds a hand.
And it is not always the mother who cries.
Every photograph is given its own silence. You are not asked to hurry and you are not asked to decide. Not yet. For a while, the only job in the room is to look at the people you love and let it land.
Then, gently, the choosing. Which one fill your walls with joy. Which ones become the album. Which ones for the grandparents.
And the thing you were too close to see, is now on the walls for years to come. Every time you walk past, you will smile.
