There is no repeating the first 2 weeks of your baby’s life. This beautiful little person is tiny, sleepy, wrinkly, furry and flaky. They are unaware they’ve arrived in this world and are pure need and emotion.
They are changing every day and growing faster than you can imagine. Capturing them whilst they are in their blissful and beautifully unaware stage is a very precious thing.
A new baby makes a huge impact in their first few days, forever changing your family make up and expanding your heart beyond what you thought it was capable of.
Because your baby’s journey into their family is important, every newborn session includes the full family. Those new relationships are so immediate, so strong and so very precious. It’s important to capture your whole family plus the individual relationships – siblings, baby and parent, baby and full family.
Enhance Studios include a complimentary Pregnancy Photo Session with every newborn session booked. We’ll make sure you don’t miss out, forget or wish you had.
The first few weeks of a baby’s life are incredibly special and capturing those memories is one of the most precious things you can do.Â
It’s a time when everything is new and everything is changing and you’ll want to be able to look back on these memories and relive them over and over again.
Think about it – your baby is only this little, this innocent and this perfect for such a short time. Before you know it, they’ll be crawling, then walking, then talking, and then they’ll be all grown up!Â
The first few weeks are a fleeting moment and capturing them will allow you to hold on to that feeling of newness and wonder forever.
And it’s not just about capturing physical memories, it’s about capturing the emotions and feelings that come along with those first few weeks. It’s about capturing the look in your baby’s eyes, the way they fit so perfectly in your arms, the way they smell and the way they feel.Â
It’s about capturing the moment when you first heard their cries and the moment you first held them close to your heart.Â
These are the memories that will stay with you forever, and they’re worth capturing in every way possible.
The first few weeks of a baby’s life are a time of immense joy, love, and wonder. Capturing these moments with Melbourne Newborn Photography will allow you to hold onto that feeling of newness and perfection forever, and will give you memories that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.Â
Don’t let these precious moments slip away – capture them in any way you can, so that you can look back on them with fondness and love for years to come.
The best time for a pregnancy shoot is between 30 and 36 weeks, when your bump has reached its fullest, most defined shape and you’re still comfortable enough to enjoy a longer session.
Newborns are photographed in their first 5 to 20 days, while babies are naturally sleepier and more settled, and before those tiny proportions start to change.
Most families book while they’re pregnant, ideally before the third trimester, because studio diaries fill months ahead. You don’t need a due date to book. We pencil in a tentative newborn appointment around your pregnancy session, and if your baby arrives early or late, that date simply moves to whatever suits that week instead.
One booking covers both sessions.
Most families who come to us for a newborn session don’t stop there. They come back for the first birthday cake smash, for the toddler years when standing still becomes the hard part, and later for the big family portrait with every generation in it.
Whenever your next chapter arrives, we’ll be here for it.

Got questions about your Newborn Photography? We’ve got answers!
The best time for a pregnancy shoot is between 30 and 36 weeks. At this stage your bump has reached its fullest, most defined shape, and you’re generally still comfortable enough to enjoy a longer session. This window also leaves enough of a buffer before your due date that an early arrival won’t mean missing the shoot altogether.
The best time for a newborn shoot is within the first 5 to 20 days after birth. At this age babies are naturally sleepier and more settled, which makes for the soft, curled newborn poses people picture when they think of this kind of photography. They also change size and shape quickly in these early weeks, so a session in this window captures proportions, like the length of a hand or the curl of a foot, that won’t look the same even a month on.
No, the window doesn’t stretch just because your baby is small. The newborn stage isn’t about size, it’s about how aware your baby is of the world around them, and after around 20 days most babies become more alert to their surroundings and start to stretch out of that familiar curled-up position, which makes the soft, sleepy poses harder to achieve. If your baby was born premature, it’s worth chatting with us directly about timing, since we can talk through what’s realistic for your situation.
Book while you are pregnant, ideally before your third trimester. Because the best newborn photos are taken in the first five to twenty days after birth, and studio diaries can fill weeks ahead, booking during pregnancy is the only way to guarantee that window rather than risk missing it.
You do not need a due date to book. We will pencil in a tentative newborn appointment around your pregnancy session, and if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, that date simply moves to whatever suits that week instead. Booking ahead like this is what protects your place in that window, even when your baby has their own schedule.
You can choose not to attend, but we wouldn’t advise it, since it’s already included at no extra cost. You’re never obligated to purchase any pregnancy images afterwards, but the session itself can’t be recreated once your baby has arrived, and it’s rare to meet a mother who regrets having those photos taken.
You can book after your baby is born, but availability is much tighter, since the ideal newborn window is only the first five to twenty days and diaries fill months ahead. Booking during pregnancy is what actually guarantees your spot in that window, a post-birth booking depends entirely on what’s still open
Yes, you can reschedule without penalty. Our standard policy allows changes up to 3 days before your appointment, but because babies rarely stick to a due date, we check in around a week beforehand with a text to ask whether your baby has arrived or is still on the way, so most appointments move well before that 3 day cutoff ever comes into play.
There’s no penalty, and it’s honestly the best excuse there is for missing an appointment. If this happens, your pregnancy session simply falls away and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can afterwards to lock in your newborn session, so we can still catch you within that first couple of weeks.
No due date is truly certain, so nothing changes in how we handle it. You book in around your expected due date as normal, and if your baby arrives earlier or later than planned, you can reschedule without penalty. We check in around a week before your appointment with a text to ask whether your baby has arrived or is still on the way, so most appointments move well before our standard 3 day reschedule cutoff ever comes into play.
Yes, when the session is led by a photographer experienced in newborn handling. At Enhance Studios, your baby is looked after by someone with over 20 years of newborn photography experience, kept warm, fed and settled throughout, with your photographer working at your baby’s pace instead of a fixed shot list.
This is normal, and your session is built around it. In over 20 years, there has always been a point where the baby settles, wanting to feed or needing a moment to resettle is simply part of the process. If your baby stays awake a little longer than expected, that often means more expressions to capture, which can mean more variety in your final photos rather than less. The 3 hour session leaves plenty of room to pause, feed and help an upset baby settle without anyone feeling rushed, and a calm mum and dad usually go a long way toward a calm baby too.
Yes, absolutely. Milk spots and baby acne are both common and can be smoothed out in post-production, so they won’t stop you getting beautiful photos. What we can’t do is turn back time and make your baby younger again, so it’s still worth keeping your session in that early window rather than waiting for skin marks to clear on their own. Milk spots are especially common in the first couple of weeks and are usually already fading by the time of your session, while true baby acne tends to appear a little later, around two to four weeks, often after your newborn session has already happened.
None of these change how we work. Because babies rarely arrive on schedule, we book a tentative newborn appointment at your pregnancy session based on your due date, and this can move to another day mid-week if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, or if you need more recovery time first.
Baby’s are on their own timeline, and that’s fine we will book a tentative newborn appointment for you at your pregnancy session. It’s close enough to your due date to be a little more educated with our guess as to when he or she will arrive.
These tentative appointments can easily be moved to another day or time mid week to allow for baby’s early or late arrival.
We highly recommend booking in early (pre baby’s arrival) to avoid missing out on those first two weeks. We know a lot is happening and before you know it that precious newborn stage is over and they are getting teeth!
Yes, and the session runs exactly as it would for a single baby. You will still have 1.5 to 3 hours in studio, and your photographer works at each baby’s pace individually, so having two does not mean less time or a rushed process.
Jaundice is common and often works in your favour, since it tends to make babies sleepier and more settled for the session. The yellow tone in skin and eyes is easily corrected afterwards in post-production, so it won’t show in your final images.
Your baby’s health comes first, so we can postpone for as long as it takes. Once your baby is home and settled, we’re happy to find a new time that suits.
Your investment starts with an Intro Experience from $280, which covers pre-shoot styling, your pregnancy and newborn sessions, your design appointment and an 8×10 print of your favourite portrait, plus a bonus pack of 12 announcement cards valued at $575.
Artwork is then chosen and invested in separately at your design appointment: individual Fine Art Matted Prints start at $250 and include the matching digital file, Canvas starts at $495, Wall Art Collections, our specialty, start at $1,200, and Digital Masters start at $990 for five, with the price per image dropping the more you take home.
No, there is no additional cost to include grandparents in your session. Your session price stays the same regardless of how many people are involved, though with more family in the room you will naturally have more images to choose from, and more variety to consider when you invest in your artwork at your design appointment.
You will see your images at a design appointment booked shortly after your session. From there, finished artwork takes 4 to 6 weeks to produce, since every piece is custom made rather than pulled from a template.
Yes. You can pay in full, split 50/50 between your design appointment and collection, or spread the cost over 12 months interest-free through PayRight on orders over $2,000, terms and conditions apply
Yes. “Full family” at Enhance Studios means whoever makes up your family unit, however that looks, and every session is planned around your family as it actually is, not a default assumption of what a family should be.
Yes. Every Enhance Studios newborn session includes the full family, siblings, parents and, where you would like, pets, because those first relationships between your baby and the rest of your family are as much a part of this stage as the baby themselves.
Yes, our Port Melbourne studio is fully wheelchair and mobility accessible.
Sessions are held at our Port Melbourne studio, not at home. With a newborn, the last thing you need is another visitor coming through your house, so think of your session more like a visit to a spa or beautician: you get to leave the house, let us do the hosting and settle into a space that’s quiet, private and set up specifically for newborn photography, with results that are genuinely hard to recreate in your own living room.
Newborn babies work to their own timeline, not a clock, so we allow 1.5 to 3 hours for your session. That buffer gives us room to settle, feed and resettle your baby as needed, rather than rushing through a fixed schedule.
No, we ask that filming and photography stay with your photographer during the session. The posing, lighting and timing you are paying for take years to perfect, and photographing or filming over our shoulder recreates that same work rather than letting you actually be present with your baby. We would rather you enjoy the experience without a screen in front of you, and save your first look for the design appointment, where you will see the finished images in full.
We do not provide maternity outfits, and this is intentional: your clothing is part of what makes your photos uniquely yours, so we ask you to bring your own, and if you are stuck for ideas, our maternity styling guide on the blog has suggestions to get you started. For newborn sessions we do have nappy covers, beanies and a few accessories on hand, but we still love parents bringing their own outfits and sentimental items, since that’s what makes your baby’s photos feel like your family’s story rather than ours.
Yes, we have a small range of props including baskets, blankets, wraps and nappy covers, plus a few headbands, beanies and dried flowers. We keep the collection intentionally simple so your own wraps, blankets and any sentimental items you have chosen for your baby can shine through, your style is what we want to showcase, not ours. We will also help you work out which of your personal items are worth bringing at your pre-shoot consultation.
Yes, and we encourage it. Personal items like this are exactly what make a session feel like your story rather than a generic setup, and we’ll work out how to use it during your pre-shoot consultation.
You do not have to show any skin you are not comfortable with. This is planned into your shoot from the very first step, the pre-shoot consultation, where we work through pose and coverage options together, so it is never something you have to think about or negotiate on the day itself.
Not at all. Your baby will look gorgeous no matter what, and it’s our job to make sure you do too, so we’ll guide you through each pose step by step rather than leaving you to figure it out on your own in front of the lens.
Yes. Posing, lighting and camera angle are all chosen with flattering results in mind, and we work with the body you have on the day rather than trying to hide it. Babies are always cute, so my job is really about making you look and feel good too, not just the baby. If pregnancy or postpartum changes are something you feel self-conscious about, mention it at your pre-shoot consultation and we will shape the session around what makes you feel most comfortable.
Feed whenever your baby needs it, right in the room, no need to step out or apologise. Our studio is female staffed, and settling your baby with a feed is often built into the session anyway, so it’s treated as a normal part of the process, not an interruption to it.
Yes. We always seek your written approval before any behind the scenes or session images are shared publicly, including on social media.
